CAESAR II Pipe Stress Analysis Services | Canada

CAESAR II Pipe Stress Analysis Services by meena rezkallah, p.eng., the best piping stress engineer & professional engineer in calgary alberta canada. pipe stress analysis services. Engineering firm company

Little P.Eng. for Engineering Services now have the ability to perform pipe stress analysis in-house utilizing the latest CAESAR II software.

CAESAR II is the market leading software for pipe stress analysis services. It uses beam theory to evaluate piping systems and plants to international standards. CAESAR II does not use the conventional FEA Analysis that many stress packages use, but instead uses stick models comprising of elements connected by nodes. CAESAR II uses computational codes from inputted data to determine whether a particular pipe network, vessel or plant will pass or fail during operation.

CAESAR II uses three load cases to determine the feasibility of a system.

  • Sustained Loads: Those due to forces present during normal operation.

  • Occasional Loads: Those present during rare intervals of operations.

  • Displacement Loads: Those due to displacement of pipe.

Little P.Eng. for Piping Stress Analysis Services offers computer aided pipe stress analysis using CAESAR II®. This enables our piping stress engineers to model and subsequently evaluate the structural responses and stresses of piping systems to international codes and standards. such as ASME B31.3, ASME B31.1, ASME B318, ASME B31.4 and CSA Z662 CAESAR II® analyizes pipe stresses under working conditions, and assists our pipe stress analysis consultant engineers in recommending practical design changes to the pipework system, if and when required. It also acts as a “proving” tool to confirm that pipework systems will be safe under working conditions. It is our opinion that any extremely high, or extremely low temperature pipework where failure could lead to serious injury or even loss of life should be analysed during the design stage. The analysis can then be submitted to the client to be assessed by insurers.

At Little P.Eng. Piping Engineering Services, we have decades of experience in solving piping stress-related issues for clients across many industries including chemical, nuclear and process plant, automotive, marine and renewable energy. It is this breadth of experience that enables us to identify potential difficulties. For example we still encounter piping designs that reproduce the errors made over forty years ago, which lead to bad events. Inexperience can lead to failure.

Experienced Engineering Consultants

Our long experience in pipe design and pipe stress analysis led to our appointment to design the piping and support brackets for the:

  • CNRL Terrain 3 Oil Sands Project, Slurry Preparation Plants, Fort McMurray, Alberta Krupp Canada [ Using CAESAR II]

  • Imperial Oil Resources Kearl Oil Sands Project, Slurry Preparation Plants, Fort McMurray, Alberta[ Using CAESAR II]

  • CNRL Horizon Project, Primary Separation Cell, Fort McMurray, Alberta [ Using CAESAR II]

  • American Dream Meadowlands, Meadowlands Sports Complex, East Rutherford, New Jersey [Using CADWorx]

The benefits of using us for piping engineering

Little P.Eng. Engineering combine practical nous, gained from a wide range of real process safety cases, a high degree of academic insight and the latest powerful software tools.

  • we’ll aim to understand the problem first, before we dive into the software

  • we’ll give you practical, commercial advice

  • we will provide detailed reporting, with feedback of both the qualitative and quantitative

  • value for money: a fixed priced based on an agreed scope, so no surprises later

  • speed: rapid uptake, interim updates, disciplined quality procedures

Our approach to pipe stress engineering

The most common tools used in pipe stress engineering are Finite Element packages which can be very powerful. However, we believe that you shouldn’t be given a calculator until you have learnt to count. The first analytical tools our piping engineers turn to are:

  • a blank sheet of paper

  • a clear and deep understanding of stress analysis theory

  • our many collective decades of experience

  • thousands of past projects for reference

  • engineering judgement, bringing together our whole team if necessary

Once we have fully considered a problem, performed preliminary calculations and agreed a clear scope, we turn to our more advanced tools.

Hand calculations with MathCAD or Excel are a powerful, flexible and clear way of constructing an argument. For more complex systems we would then reach for other renowned commercial packages including Caesar II software.

Our specialist piping experience

Little P.Eng. for Pipe Stress Analysis has extensive experience in the design and substantiation of a wide variety of piping systems, including:

  • Process chemical plant

  • Nuclear installations

  • Process pipelines

  • Power generation steam systems

  • Firefighting systems

  • High temperature steam systems for building services

Our professional piping stress engineers have a bachelor's degree in mechanical / structural engineering and province license (P.Eng.) in Alberta, Saskatchewan, British Columbia and Ontario. We review, validate, certify and stamp piping and structural packages.
